A Reason To Worship

Hannah, in the book of 1 Samuel, worshipped God after she prayed to God, begging Him for a son. Even before God answered Hannah's prayer, she worshiped. Hannah worshipped God because regardless of her situation, God was still God. Whether the answer was going to be yes or no, she worshipped anyway. It can be easy to get into a routine of praying for something, and if God says yes, then we worship. A teacher of mine once stated during the study of this story that we should not hold our worship as a bargaining chip with God but that we should freely worship Him regardless of our situation.

So why should we worship and praise God? Throughout scripture, God has given man many reasons to bow down and praise Him. God brought the very universe into existence. (Genesis 1:1) God parted the Red Sea and saved the Israelites from the Egyptians. (Exodus 14:22) When we walk after the will of God, He shows us mercy. (Psalm 25:10) God knows a person before they are even born. (Jeremiah 1:5)

We should worship God today because of who Jesus is. Jesus was a person who was willing to go to people who were outcasts and sinners to share himself with them. (Matthew 9:10) Jesus healed people in need (Matthew 8:3). He allowed every man and woman to be part of the unified family of Christ. (Gal. 3:28)

There are so many more reasons to give as to why God deserves praise. So what do we do knowing God is worthy of our worship and praise? We need to spend more time worshipping and praising God. Set aside time each day to thank God and pray to him, thanking Him for what he has done. Sing songs of praise to God during your week, not just a song or two on Sunday. Make your life more focused on giving the God of the universe what he deserves: praise and worship.
