Who Are We?

Individually we are “Christians” (Acts 11:26). We are neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish — just “Christian”. The congregation is autonomous, which simply means that the congregation is independent and self-governing. We are not a denominational church which is part of a larger organization such as a diocese, a district, a conference, or a synod. There is no earthly headquarters for the church. We do not answer to an individual or organization outside the local body of Christians. Jesus Christ is our only head and His word, the Bible, is the standard that determines what we do. In the Bible, there is no particular name given to the group of Christians. Rather than a particular name for the group, there are many descriptive terms used for God’s people. The Bible speaks of the group of Christians as “the body of Christ” (Ephesians 1:22-23), “the church of God” (I Corinthians 1:1-2) or the “church(es) of Christ” (Romans 16:16). We simply want to be the church which Jesus promised to build (Matthew 16:13-18; Acts 20:28) — the church of Christ.

We gather each Lord’s Day to honor God through the songs we sing, the prayers we offer, and in remembering the death of Christ through eating the Lord’s Supper (Communion) (Matthew 26:26-29; Acts 20:7; I Corinthians 11:23-29). We have a free will offering but do not expect anyone who is not a member of this congregation to give. At each service, the Word of God will be preached.

One becomes a member of the Lord’s church by being added to the church when he is baptized (Acts 2:36-47). At the time one is immersed in water his sins are washed away by the blood of Christ (Acts 22:16; Revelation 1:5; 7:14). There is no “clergy” and “laity” in the church. We are all “one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26-28). This group of Christians (the church) is guided by men who are shepherds of our souls (Acts 20:28-32; Hebrews 13:17; Acts 14:23).

We invite you to assemble with us — the Columbine church of Christ. We gather every Sunday at 9 a.m. for class and 10 a.m. for worship and at 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday for Bible study. We would especially enjoy getting together with you personally to study the Bible so that the power of God’s Word can affect our lives. If we can assist you in any way please call us at (303) 979-8944.
